Community of amputees and veterans gathered together outdoors

Our Mission

Every person living with limb loss deserves a full life.

Amputees Are Awesome serves anyone experiencing limb loss or limb difference — with a focused commitment to the veteran community. Our programs, prosthetics fund, and retreat center are open to all.

Our Story

Born from lived experience.

Amputees Are Awesome was founded by people who know firsthand what it means to face limb loss — the physical challenges, the financial barriers, and the profound need for community that truly understands.

We started with a simple belief: that amputees are not defined by what they've lost, but by the strength, resilience, and possibility that remains. That belief has grown into a movement — a nonprofit building real infrastructure for real people, regardless of how or why they came to live with limb loss.

From raising funds for prosthetics to building a permanent retreat center in Tennessee, everything we do is rooted in the conviction that no one — veteran or civilian — should face limb loss alone.

Open to All

Our programs, prosthetics fund, and retreat center are open to anyone living with limb loss or limb difference — regardless of age, background, or how they came to need support. No one is turned away.

Practical Support

Good intentions aren't enough. We focus on tangible outcomes — prosthetics funded, retreats built, connections made — because real support changes real lives.

Dignity & Independence

Every person deserves to live actively and independently. We fight to remove the financial, physical, and social barriers that stand between people with limb loss and the life they deserve.

Veteran Honor

Many of our members served this country and came home changed. We honor that sacrifice with action — not just words — by ensuring veterans with limb loss have priority access to the support they've earned.

Global Mission

Limb loss knows no borders.

More than 57 million people worldwide are living with limb loss or limb difference. In developing nations, access to prosthetics and rehabilitation is nearly nonexistent. Our global mission works to change that — partnering with organizations and individuals to extend support beyond our borders.

Whether it's a veteran in Tennessee, a civilian navigating a new reality, or a child in a developing country — our commitment is the same: create opportunity, build community, and provide the practical support that makes a full life possible.

Veterans & Service Members

They gave everything. We give back.

Veterans account for a significant portion of the amputee community in the United States. Many return home to find that the support systems they need — prosthetics, adaptive equipment, mental health resources, and community — are fragmented, underfunded, or simply out of reach.

While our doors are open to everyone living with limb loss or limb difference, we have a special and deep commitment to veterans and active service members. We work directly with the veteran community to connect them with prosthetic funding, adaptive living resources, and a community of people who understand the unique challenges of military service and limb loss.
